Alphaeus Anderson,Multiple Stellar Award-winning Artist, Presents The University of South Carolina Upstate Gospel Choir

0

The University of South Carolina Upstate is a leading regional public university that transforms the lives of diverse students, their families, and communities throughout the Upstate South Carolina region. With a commitment to cultivate an inclusive community and prioritize ethical conduct as fundamental to the core mission of student success, USC Upstate has nurtured a revolving group of talented goodwill ambassadors through the power of Gospel music.

The university’s gospel choir began as The Gordon-Collums Gospel Choir, but the school changed from USCS to USC Upstate in 2005, and the choir name changed to The USC Upstate Gospel Choir. They have become the soul of the university.

In 2013, songwriter, choir director, and educator Alphaeus Anderson took over the choir with 16 members and has grown it to over 70 members through his innovative techniques in youth empowerment. Under his direction for over ten years, the choir is preparing its debut album and releasing its first single, “Already Done.”

“Already Done is the anthem that bursts through the darkness, lighting up the future with a blaze of unbreakable faith,” Alphaeus states. “It’s the sound of victory before the battle, the assurance that the impossible is already within reach no matter the storm. To some, this song is a prophecy; to others, it’s a promise already fulfilled.”

Alphaeus Anderson is the author of Youth Magnet and No Youth No Church SOULutions and the founder of No Youth No Church, which provides coaching and training for leaders to attract and empower youth. He founded the Pure-N-Heart choir, which now attracts over 350 students annually, and has received seven Stellar Award nominations, winning Best Youth Project of the Year in 2012 and 2019.

“Already Done” is available now on all digital music outlets. The song is written by the assistant choir director Jared White, is produced by Dontae Ladson, and features lead vocals by CJ Marquís. The USC Gospel Choir has also released the official music video streaming now on their YouTube channel. Lead videographer Jody Hayes and his media team captured the students’ inherent energy and vibe while immersing in authentic worship. Watch the official music video here.

The growth and dedication of students to the USC Upstate Gospel Choir are evident. Lives are being changed on campus, and now the impact can be global.

“Growing up as a preacher’s kid, people assumed I had a personal relationship with God simply because I had been in church my whole life. But, I truly met God at a Gospel choir practice,” says USC Upstate student and choir member Kiana Murdaugh. “This Gospel choir saved me from many bad decisions and was a place I could always go when I felt far from the spirit. I am deeply grateful to Alpheus for his leadership and commitment to his calling. I cherish my USC Gospel Choir family.”

Kiana and her classmates’ release of “Already Done” is a precursor to The USC Gospel Choir’s forthcoming debut album, ELEVATE, which will be available in early 2025.

Bryan Andrew Wilson’s New Christmas Album Features Grammy Winners and Gospel Legends

“This is my incomplete Christmas album,” singer Bryan Andrew Wilson laughs. “It’s been in progress for years. I’d do a part of a song and leave it and come back to finish it 2 years later.” Aside from running a church, studying for a master’s degree, and working as an Atlanta educator, Wilson has been a caretaker to several relatives. “My mother, who set the standard for our family holidays, died of cancer. I took care of her those last few months. My former road manager died of COVID, and I took care of her funeral. My spiritual mother, Duranice Pace, died suddenly, and several other people died. It’s been a lot, and I wasn’t always in a Christmas spirit, but we finally finished some of the songs this year that we started years ago.” Wilson’s holiday album, Jingle Jams (Bryan’s Songs/ CE Music / The Orchard Distribution), is now available on all digital music platforms. Listening Link: https://orcd.co/jinglejams

Jingle Jams opens with the slow jam “The Best Gift.” Wilson wrote the song with producer Darryl Pearson, whose resumé includes productions with Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, Mya, Drake, and Sam Smith. The next track, “Jingle Bell Swing,” is a Chicago-styled stepper’s track produced by Judah Sealy, who has enjoyed No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Smooth Jazz charts. Next up is Wilson’s Motown cover of Smokey Robinson & the Miracles’ 1963 gem, “Christmas Everyday.”

On the second half of the album, Wilson takes the listener to a Pentecostal church. He opens this section with the quasi-classical song he co-wrote with Blake Wesley Pace, “Greatest Gift of All.” It features Wilson’s full-throated tenor against the majestic backing vocals of the Washington, D.C.-based group Roderick Giles & Grace (who backed Wilson on his 2016 Billboard No. 1 gospel hit, “Overflow”) and the celestial string orchestration of Yoed Nir (Judy Collins, Regina Spektor). Then, Wilson saunters over to New Orleans for “The Savior Has Come,” which features the Grammy® Award-winning Rebirth Brass Band (who have collaborated with the likes of Trombone Shorty, Jon Batiste, and Harry Connick Jr.) who bring a Bourbon Street marching band and a rickety church pew together for a festive celebration of the savior’s birth. On the bluesy “A Wonderful Child,” Wilson is joined by 90-year-old gospel music legend Dorothy Norwood and vocal dynamo Darrel Walls of the Grammy® Award nominated, The Walls Group) for a gutbucket rumination on the birth of Christ.

The album closes with the funky, percussive “He Brought Joy,” which Wilson says is a nod to the godfather of soul James Brown’s church roots. “I have five more songs that I didn’t want to rush, so we’ll finish those in the new year and reissue the whole thing as a complete album in 2025,” Wilson adds. “The songs that didn’t make it are cool songs, I think. I can’t wait to finish them and reintroduce this project next year.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Bryan’s entrance on the music scene when the then-ten-year-old sang a dynamic rendition of “His Eye is on the Sparrow” with the Mississippi Children’s Choir back in 1994 for Malaco Records. Wilson’s dramatic high notes and note-bending made the song and instant success that’s earned him millions of YouTube and TikTok views in the digital era. “That song seems to go viral every few months,” Wilson laughs. “It’s pretty amazing how that happens.”

Deitrick Haddon Teams Up with DAMITA, and Tasha Page-Lockhart For New Track

0

3x Grammy® Award-nominated singer, songwriter, and producer Deitrick Haddon and his Detroit choir, Voices of Unity, had united for the first time since 2012 when they collaborated on the soundtrack for Haddon’s film, A Beautiful Soul. Haddon and the ensemble have come together for a poignant new version of their classic cut, “Hold On 2 Your Faith” (ManHaddon Ministries/ Tyscot Records), that first appeared on their Live the Life album in 1997.

Haddon’s former wife, DAMITA, who sang the original version of the song, has been battling cancer for four years, returns to share leads with vocal dynamo Tasha Page-Lockhart. Long before she won BET’s 2013 Sunday Best talent competition and scored Billboard Top Ten hits such as “Different,” Page-Lockhart recorded and toured with the Voices of Unity during the promotion of the 1998 album Round Midnight: Tyscot Live. “In a world filled with uncertainty, Hold On 2 Your Faith stands as a powerful reminder that God is in control,” says Haddon, who pastors Hill City Church in Los Angeles as a reason for the remake. “Trust that all things will work together for our good if we remain steadfast in our faith.” Listen Link: https://dhvouho2yf.lnk.to/dotUcG

On this new incarnation, DAMITA’s cascading soprano still sparkles atop a simmering backbeat and provides an appealing contrast to Tasha’s volcanic alto while Haddon serves as emcee. The two divas trade verses in the first half of the track. In the second half, the song takes on a new flavor with DAMITA testifying about her cancer battle as Tasha exhorts her and the listener to hold on to their faith. It is a heartfelt twist on an established underground contemporary gospel classic. They all recently met up at the Peerspace warehouse in South Central Los Angeles to film a music video that has premiered on BET Gospel: https://www.bet.com/topic/bet-gospel

Deitrick Haddon & Voices of Unity mined a goldmine of cutting-edged urban gospel recordings in the late 1990s, such as their now classic contemporary gospel songs such as “Who Is Like Our God,” “Anybody Here,” and their signature anthem, “He’s Able.” The first Voices of Unity album, Come into This House, was released in 1996 and it included fan favorites such as “Rain on Me” and “Don’t Give Up.” They won a Grammy® Award nomination for their 2007 album, Deitrick Haddon Presents Together in Worship, which featured the radio smashes “Watch Me Praise Him,” “We Cry Holy,” and “He’s Able.” As a solo artist, DAMITA has scored hits with songs such as “No Looking Back,” “Won’t Be Afraid,” and “Won’t Turn Back.” Tasha Page-Lockhart has scored Billboard chart hits such as “Over & Over,” “Different,” “Why Not Me?” and the No. 1 cut, “Beautiful Savior” with Bryan Popin.

BETHEL MUSIC DROPS NEW SINGLE “HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS (LIVE)” FEAT. BRIAN JOHNSON

0

Bethel Music announces the release of their latest single, “HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS (LIVE),” available now on all streaming platforms, accompanied by a live music video. Led by Bethel Music Co-Founder Brian Johnson, the track is part of the collective’s highly anticipated album, “We Must Respond,” set for global release on January 10, 2025. Listen to/pre-save the song here and watch the music video here.

“He Has Done Great Things (Live)”is a beautiful depiction of the gospel and the sacrifice of Jesus. Inspiration from Psalm 103 leads listeners to remember the gift of God’s everlasting love, mercy, and forgiveness.

Says Johnson, “‘He Has Done Great Things’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve been a part of writing in a long time. It takes us back to the heart of simple worship. This song just fell into place from the writing room to the recording. I think I’ll be singing this one for the rest of my life.”

Fresh off their recent GRAMMY®-nomination for “Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song” with “Holy Forever” feat. Bethel’s Jenn Johnson and gospel legend CeCe Winans, the worship collective is preparing for the release of “We Must Respond” in 2025. Recorded live earlier this year at the historic Cascade Theatre in Redding, Calif., the album features a collection of worship songs led by Bethel Music alongside guest vocalists including Abbie Gamboa, Brooke Ligertwood, and Aodhán King.

The upcoming compilation is inspired by a season of waiting on the Lord and reflects a deep call to worship. As Bethel’s Bill Johnson explains, the album is a response to the invitation in Psalm 46:10: “Be still and know that I am God.” It calls believers into a sacred exchange between the Spirit of God and the hearts of those who hunger for a deeper, more intimate connection with Him. In this place of surrender, true worship is birthed.

With a global reach that spans over 200 million listeners, thousands of churches using their music, and sold-out events like the Bethel Music Conference and Worship Nights, Bethel Music is one of the largest and most influential worship collectives in the world. Since its inception in 2001 (co-founded by Brian and Jenn Johnson), the collective has released 18 albums, produced multiple Gold and Platinum-certified albums, and consistently reached the top of the Billboard Christian Music charts with powerful songs like “Reckless Love,” “It Is Well,” and “Goodness of God.” Hitting a new stride over the last few years, the collective has continually ranked #6 in the top 10 radio market share and their impactful music continues to resonate across the globe.

Katy Nichole Launches Viral Hit “When I Fall”; Lead Single From Her Sophomore Album

0

RIAA Platinum®-selling, Dove Award-winning Katy Nichole releases “When I Fall” today (Nov. 22) at digital and streaming outlets everywhere from katynichole.lnk.to/WhenIFall. After notching three back-to-back No. 1 hits on the radio with singles from her record-breaking Centricity Music debut album, Jesus Changed My Life, “When I Fall,” is the first single revealed from her upcoming sophomore album (title and release date TBA). The new song has already become a soundtrack for millions on TikTok and Instagram.

Earlier this year, Nichole began to share cell phone video clips of herself singing the chorus of “When I Fall.” Hearing how the lyrics and melody that came directly from her own experience of calling out to God from a place of brokenness resonated and encouraged millions of people on social media (see https://www.tiktok.com/discover/katy-nichole-when-i-fall), she knew that she had to properly record the song and release it to the world. To date, clips of the song have been viewed more than 200 million times on TikTok alone and shared by over 100 thousand other creators on the social platform.

“‘When I Fall’ was a song I wrote out of complete desperation. I just wept at my piano, and I cried out feeling so mentally, spiritually, and physically drained,” remembers Nichole. “The words I sang were what I was praying in that moment. So tired of trying to be OK, I decided to be honest with myself and God, and God met me exactly where I was. I felt so much peace bringing all that I am to the feet of Jesus. Whether it be joy, sadness, or just my frustration, I knew I could talk to Jesus about anything, and he would love me through it.”

Quoting Psalm 27:7-8, Nichole continues, “This verse reminds me to be persistent and unwavering in my prayer. Because the Lord is listening and in His presence is where I will find everything that I need.”

(“When I Fall” Chorus)

My God, I’m tired of trying to be okay
I’ve prayed all the prayers I have to pray
Please don’t leave me lonely
My God, I need You to hold me

My God, I’m losing all the hope I got
I’m far beyond the point of being lost
I’ve tried, but I can’t let go
‘Cause God, You catch me when I fall

Produced by GRAMMY-nominated Jeff Pardo, “When I Fall” comes after Nichole’s RIAA Platinum® “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” Recording Academy-highlighted “Hold On” and “God Is In This Story” singles all hit the top of radio charts. Along with these songs, the Jesus Changed My Life Deluxe edition of Nichole’s award-winning debut album contains seven additional tracks and four originals, including her hit single, “My God Can (feat. Naomi Raine).”

Singing “When I Fall” along with her No.1 singles and fan favorites on this fall’s recent K-LOVE-sponsored The Awakening Tour with Casting Crowns, Nichole joins NewSong and Micah Tyler for 10 Christmas tour dates next month before launching her 2025 events during Universal Studio’s Rock The Universe Jan. 24, Florida’s biggest Christian music festival. Her jam-packed schedule next year also includes her first headline tour, a Compassion International-sponsored tour with CAIN, a spring leg of The Awakening Tour and many of the major fairs and Christian festivals during the summer months.

Releasing songs filled with the unabashed honesty and impeccable artistry that have made the 24-year-old one of Christian music’s fastest-rising talents, Nichole has been nominated for an American Music Award, was named the Gospel Music Association’s New Artist of the Year (2023) and received a K-LOVE Fan Award. She was also named a Billboard Chartbreaker and performed twice on both the Grand Ole Opry and FOX & Friends.

The time taken to reset has ignited new passion, which is heard and felt in “Get The Glory.” The song gently flows with an R&B vibe, supporting inspiring lyrics with an undeniably clear message influenced by Isaiah 42:8: “I am the Lord; that is My name. And My Glory will I not give to another.”
