Gospel music veteran Carvin Winans has released his long-awaited second solo album, Cool Gospel, which was released on June 27 through Blackground Records 2.0. The 11-track project marks a milestone for Winans, as its lead single, “God Still Working on Me,” recently reached the top of Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart, marking his first solo No. 1 hit.
A foundational member of The Winans, the Detroit-based gospel group he formed alongside his brothers Ronald, Marvin, and Michael, Winans is no stranger to musical acclaim. The family quartet became known for their seamless fusion of gospel and R&B, earning multiple Grammy Awards and lending their voices to iconic tracks, including Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror.” Outside the spotlight, Carvin Winans has also penned songs for celebrated artists such as Whitney Houston and Regina Belle, adding to a legacy that spans decades.
With Cool Gospel, Winans showcases a collaborative effort both professionally and personally. Producers Sean Garrett, Carlos Battey, and Gregg Pagani help shape the album’s polished sound, while contributions from his wife Chérie, daughter Laylah, and sons Carvin Jr. and Juan add depth and intimacy to the songwriting.
Tracks like “Shining Star,” “You Gotta Believe,” and “He Who Know God” reflect the album’s themes of faith, perseverance, and joy—blending modern production with the soulful sincerity that defines Winans’ musical voice.
Fans can also catch Winans live this fall as he joins fellow gospel legends Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp, and The Clark Sisters for the Detroit Gospel Legends Tour, kicking off on October 18 in Stockbridge, Georgia.
Cool Gospel is now streaming on all major platforms, offering both longtime fans and new listeners a fresh chapter in Carvin Winans’ evolving solo journey.
