Looking for healthy, tasty food? Look no further than Turning Natural. It’s a great spot to find good eats. It’s a vegan restaurant, but vegetarians and and meat lovers alike will be drawn to this cozy eatery founded by Annette Turner, to provide a holistic lifestyle to everyday living after being diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer in 2001. Her daughter, Jerri Evans is Turning Natural’s current owner.
I must admit, I’d never heard of Turning Natural. However, a random Facebook post by a friend led me to check it out. After all, it’s not that easy to find plant-based restaurants near me. So, off I went to see what the fuss was all about. And, joy of all joys, I discovered I could order online at the Forrestville location!
Well, I did go a little overboard on my first visit. I ordered the Black Bean Burger, veggie patties, spinach patties, the Bob Marley smoothie and the Swizz Beets cold-pressed juice. What?? A girl’s gotta eat.
Walking into the restaurant, I was struck by the wonderful eclectic atmosphere and awesome decor. Wonderful sayings decorated the walls. It felt like I had walked into a plant-based foods oasis in the midst of an often dry land. I was greeted warmly and my order was ready!

How was the food? Excellent! The Black Bean Burger is a must-have , you can add as many toppings as you like from the salad bar. The patties were great, although the spinach patties were a little spicy for me, but good none the less. Bob Marley is now my favorite smoothie because I’ve yet to move on to try the other wonderfully name smoothies like Chill Pill, Muhammad Ali, Prince and others. I love all things beets so Swizz Beets was great. The combination of apple, lemon, ginger was simply heaven to my palate.
Turning Natural is worth checking out. I try to get there as often as I can. Oh, did I mention they have the best (and big) waffles? They’re good too!
It’s just that good! Imagine my delight when I read that Turning Natural is opening two new locations. They will be located in the Shaw-Howard area and at MGM!
Turning Natural is located at 7748 Marlboro Pike, Forestville, Maryland 20747. For their other locations, visit their website.
