When life brings challenges, G Quence Productions Recording Artist James E. Douglas has learned how to hold on to his praise. The singer, songwriter and ordained minister had to hold on tight when his family was split up due to incarceration. It’s with that backdrop that Douglas releases his debut CD, Still I Praise. A mixture of live and studio cuts and traditional and contemporary Gospel music, Still I Praise ministers to the spirit and the soul. Featuring the unmatched vocals of Gospel songstress LeJuene Thompson and memorable performances from the artist himself, the new release is available now on CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers.
The project features 13 tracks of inspirational music. Those who love praise and worship will get their fill on Still I Praise. Tracks like the worshipful “Nothing Without You” and the stunning “What A God You Are” put the listener right in the presence of God. For those who enjoy up-tempo tracks of praise, Douglas delivers songs like the lively “Chosen” and the urban-tinged “One More Praise”. LeJuene Thompson, known for her riveting lead vocals with Donald Lawrence’s Tri-City Singers and Bishop T.D. Jakes, takes the lead single, “Testify”, to another level with her gut-wrenching delivery. Douglas makes the project a family affair with the guest appearances of his mother on the soft ballad, “In That Name” and his son on “If It Had Not Been (Grace)”. A gifted vocalist, Douglas gives a heartfelt performance on the CD’s title track, one that is clearly close to his heart.
The Gospel music industry is enjoying James’ debut release. Dave Harris of Studio B Mastering, known for his work for artists like John P. Kee, Jonathan Nelson and Anthony Brown, says this about James E. Douglas’ project: “James’ voice immediately caught my attention when I began work on his project. He has a unique, distinctive and soulful voice that draws the listener into the song. He doesn’t sound like anyone else yet you feel right at home when you hear him sing.”
Bro. Jay from WFMV 95.3FM and ColumbiaInspiration.com says, “When I heard the single, ‘Testify’ from James E. Douglas, the lyrics testified to me. When I heard he was releasing a new debut CD, I couldn’t wait to attend the CD listening event. From the intro to the first cut ‘My Love (Never Change)’ to the last cut ‘Daily I Shall Worship Thee’, this CD is an anointed production of God’s message with tight harmonies, tone and melodies”.
The Bennettsville, South Carolina resident’s life was turned upside down a few years ago when his wife was arrested. Little did he know, she was struggling with an addiction to prescription medicine. Ultimately, she was sentenced to a number of years in prison. The tragedy ripped apart James’ family. He was angry that God would allow such a circumstance to touch his family. A husband and a father, he found himself raising his kids alone while working through his test of faith. During a conversation with God, he clearly heard the Lord say, “If you take care of my business, I will take care of yours”. The “business” God was speaking of was James’ music. He had been sitting on it for years and it was then that he knew God wanted him to release the songs he had been given. God kept His promise to James and reunited and restored his family. James was obedient as well and the result is Still I Praise.
It’s not just a song, but a message that James wants to share. “Even when I was going through,” he shares, “I didn’t stop praising God. I still went to church, I still led praise and worship and I still preached,” he says. “I never stopped serving God. I encourage people to give God glory in spite of what they’re going through.” Encouragement is at the heart of the ministry of James E. Douglas. Currently a preacher and Bible teacher, he’s been a singer his entire life. Earlier in life, he had a stint at an R&B career, but after rededicating his life to the Lord, he pursued a career in Gospel music, even gaining an opportunity to open for GRAMMY Award Nominee Byron Cage. Still I Praise is the artist’s official debut.
