This year’s Essence Festival outdrew all prior years with more than 540, 000 in attendance. The festival that featured music and much more concluded Sunday, July 7.
There was an All-Star Gospel Tribute to Tramaine Hawkins and Donnie McClurkin with a special message from Bishop Noel Jones. One of the more poignant events of the festival was the Love, Loss & Life tribute & prayer vigil for mothers who have lost children to violence.
There was also a commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of 1963 that features Congressman John Lewis, Myrlie Evers Williams, and DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton.
The festival featured more than 50 acts including Beyonce, Charlie Wilson, Jill Scott and New Edition and more than 120 of the world’s top artists, speakers, authors, leaders, innovators and celebrities.
