Vernon Hill is a songwriter with lots of music stored inside his soul. On Saturday, November 9 he presented “A Night of Worship: The Songs from His Presence Album Experience.”
“A Night of Worship” was an opportunity to share his worship songs to God that were born out of his college experience. It all took place at First Christian Community Church of Annapolis.
The concert which publicly unveiled his debut album Songs from His Presence was skillfully streamlined. Many CD releases contain several opening acts before you can get to the featured artist which sometimes makes for a long night of anticipation.
Not so with Vernon Hill. The newcomer got it right. The concert started off with a time of worship with the vocal ensemble of Tonae Burgess, Ericka Johnson, LaVarn Gordon, Keon Jones, Jemila Richardson and praise dancers who seamlessly moved into full concert mode.
The night was filled with non-stop worship and the audience responded in kind. Jemila Richardson did an outstanding job on “He Loves,” one of the album’s highlights. We should expect to hear more from this gifted singer as it was mentioned that she was working on a project. She also led “Worthy Almighty.”
Lavarn Gordon led “Forever” and “In Your Presence.” Byron Ransom took the helm on “I Will Wait’ and took the audience into a praise break.
Hill wrote all of the songs on the album along with co-writer Keon Jones. The dynamic duo clearly understands how to tap into the flow of worship and translate it into lyrics that resonate with listeners.
At the end of the night Vernon Hill said that he needed to get these songs out. He also wants to get these songs into the hands of singers who can get his message out. He accomplished the first and no doubt singers will also begin to seek Hill out.
Songs from His Presence is available at iTunes and other digital outlets.
