Mavis Staples Gets Grammy Nod For Second Gospel Album

Mavis Staples scores Grammy nod

Mavis Staples is making great music and her work is still getting recognized. Last week, the legendary singer receives a Grammy nomination for her second Gospel album, One True Vine.

Although it is a gospel album, Mavis Staples received her nomination in the Best Americana Album category. Given her and the Staples Singers folksy style, the category is probably appropriate.

Mavis Staples latest album gets Grammy nomination. One True Vine is a ten-track collection of  gospel songs presented in Staples’ unique way. Songs like the traditional “What Are They Doing in Heaven Today” are reminiscent of old-time church.

One True Vine (click to purchase) shot straight to #2 on the Billboard Gospel chart and reached #67 on Billboard 200 when it debuted earlier this year.
