The Christmas season is upon us and there have been many holiday classics down through the years. “The Uncut Coming of Christ” has firnly taken its place as the leader in a new wave of classic Christmas fare that is fun for all ages, yet unashamedly delivers a profound message that speaks to the true meaning of Christmas. The musical production takes place at First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG) in Upper Marlboro, MD. The event is free and no tickets are required.
In its eighth year, “The Uncut Coming of Christ” is a comtemporary re-telling of the birth of Jesus Christ. Last week’s performances drew nearly 9,000 attendees. This weekend marks the last three performances of the musical written and directed by playwright Joshua Jenkins, with original music by Stellar Award winner Anthony Brown, who also serves as co-director.
“The story of the birth of Christ remains the same, but we’ve added some spice,” said Joshua Jenkins. Anthony Brown echoed those sentiments, “We modernized Christmas music for this play. We had incredible artists sing these songs and hopefully, the goal is for the music to live in your [audience] hearts and walk away humming a new tune.”
Gospel artists take on the the lead roles. Ruth La’Ontra is Mary, Brandon Gaines is Joseph and Leah Clark Leach plays the angel who heralds the good news of the baby’s birth in the spectacular production that features more than 300 cast members including dancers and youth. The story concludes with two memorable testimonies that reinforce the power of God, as well as demonstrates why The Uncut Coming of Christ is definitely a modern-day classic.
