Industry insider Rev. Dr. Jerome Allen Bell welcomes GMWA; preps CD release

Rev. Bell has been an active participant at GMWA since the late 1970s

Jerome Bell

Legendary, beloved, industry insider Rev. Dr. Jerome Allen Bell will be displaying multiple gifts and talents at this year’s Gospel Music Workshop of America Convention at The Washington Hilton Hotel. In addition to co-hosting the Kenny Taylor Showcase and other high-profile events, Rev. Dr. Jerome Allen Bell will also share his gift of song at the convention by performing.

Honoring his long-time friend who also called him a “mentor,” Rev. Bell will perform during the showcase debuting a single from his soon-to-be released CD, “Bridging the Gap … GENERATIONS.”  The CD was recorded in October 2018 at his home church, The New Macedonia Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. where he once served as a choir director.

Rev. Bell has been involved in music and music ministry for many years. During his childhood, he participated in his Elementary, Junior High and High School glee clubs, choirs, & choruses. As a young adult, he even performed on the DMV Nightclub scene! In later years, he became a stalwart gospel radio announcer at WYCB, WDCU, WBZE, WWGB, and other broadcast entities including the Armed Forces Network. In addition to his energizing/inspiring preaching and teaching, he is known for his exceptional abilities in hosting concerts and other major events of various genres, as well as for his acumen in gospel music promotion and production.

Through a series of opportunities over the past 30 plus years, Rev. Bell has been able to work with, manage, and/or represent a virtual “Who’s Who” of gospel and secular artists such as The Richard Smallwood Singers, Lady Tramaine Hawkins, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Queen of Gospel, Albertina Walker, and Dorothy Norwood, just to name a few. Smokey Robinson and the late Lou Rawls tapped in to his abilities whenever they would do Gospel oriented events and projects.

Rev. Bell has been an active participant at GMWA since the late 1970s. He has served as a delegate, participated in the Religious Announcers Guild, hosted showcases and has taught a variety of classes.

The GMWA Alliance of Gospel Music Professionals’ Kenny Taylor Showcase will also bring Rev. Bell and WHUR Announcer Jacquie Gales Webb together again, reminiscent of the 80s when they both worked at gospel radio powerhouse WYCB, the first 24 hour Gospel radio station in the country. The Kenny Taylor Showcase honors the legacy of the DMV’s Gospel Industry Giant who passed suddenly in May 2017. Taylor made his mark by serving and assisting an innumerable array of artists in their rise to the top.

Just as he would have wanted, The Kenny Taylor Showcase will feature past, present and future DMV (Washington, DC, Maryland, & Virginia Area) artists as well as those from other areas. This Showcase is not to be missed as those in attendance will include countless artists, Gospel industry executives, insiders, movers and shakers.

The Showcase takes place at The Washington Hilton Hotel Ballroom, 1919 Connecticut Avenue, NW D.C. on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, 10:00 p.m. Admission is free, seats are limited.
