The Radio Workshop: The Fundamentals will be held at Galilee Baptist Church on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. The event is free.
The session targets anyone interested in learning the fundamentals about securing radio airplay and promoting music in the marketplace, including independent artists.
Holla Wolla is no stranger to the industry and will bring a wealth of knowledge to the workshop. He has produced a live radio broadcast, hosted live performance events, warmed the crowd for taped TV broadcasts, including Bobby Jones Gospel and served as panelist/clinician/judge for multiple talent showcases and music industry events.
The 2013 Radio Workshop Series will make its way to several cities. In addition to the DC area, there will be stops in Charlotte, N.C on August 10 and Richmond, VA on Oct.5.
The radio workshop has already held in Philadelphia. According to Holla Wolla, “It was a huge success. I had about 50 people plus. They were very hungry and engaging, which created a great atmosphere. we had a lot of questions and queries; it was a good time. They showed up and stayed the whole time,” he said.
The session lasts two hours, which includes 90 minutes of instruction and a 30-minute Q&A. Holla Wolla plans to focus on sharing knowledge throughout the workshop.
“It’s really a very multi-sensory experience. I want it to be very relevant, because it’s real life for them. I want them to really be able to take something from it, as opposed to being preached at and given a bunch of anecdotes. Lets talk about where you really are in your career and technically, marketing, radio, your role, your purpose, your plan and your audience.”
Retailers have also been invited to attend the workshop.”I want to make sure they can build relationships and can engage the retailer and get the label’s perspective as well as the retailer’s point of view.” Holla Wolla also has retail merchandising experience and is prepared to share that knowledge with attendees.
If you are serious about making the most out of your music endeavors, plan to attend the free Radio Workshop. There is also one more incentive to attend. Holla Walla says, “I give the first 5-10 people a complimentary music review afterwards. They can send me one track and I give them some feedback to further their move to the next level or direction.”
Although the session if free, advance registration is required. Register online at radioworkshopdc.eventbrite.com.
