Album Review:Kerry Douglas Presents Gospel Mix VI

Kerry Douglas Presents Gospel Mix IV review

Kerry Douglas is an industry mover and shaker.  Named by Billboard as the # Indie Gospel CEO, Douglas returns with another gospel compilation album, Kerry Douglas Presents Gospel Mix VI.

The album is available now and like most compilation albums contains a collection of songs familiar to the listener and conveniently located on one album. The album includes Tamela Mann, Ruben Studdard, Tye Tribbett, and Rev. Paul Jones’ original version of “I Won’t Complain.”

Listeners also get to hear Earnest Pugh‘s “Rain and Glory” medley and there’s a look back with the always relevant “I Told the Storm” by Greg O’Quinn.

Although it’s great to hear these  songs, it is the new ones that make this compilation album distinctive. Zacardi Cortez delivers a soulful rendition of “1 on 1.” The song is transparent, acknowledging the need to get a closer relationship with God, unhampered by distractions. It’s a beautiful song of intimacy on the spiritual plane.

Another stand-out is “It Can Happen For Me”  by Bryan Andrew Wilson.  All grown up from his stint as a child with the Mississippi Mass Choir, Wilson delivers a song that is both uplifting and encouraging as it reminds the listener to keep the faith and live with expectancy. Wilson is a capable, consistent singer and it seems like he is hovering around the precipice of breaking out from the pack.

Kerry Douglas Presents Gospel Mix VI is well worth the investment. It’s a great CD that has enough variety that should keep listeners engaged over time.

Picks: “1 on 1,” “It Can Happen For Me”
