Although it was a very hot day, it didn’t stop tens of thousands from attending Together 2016 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Saturday, July 16 to celebrate that “Jesus changes everything.”
Nick Hall of PULSE, organized the event. Published in 2016, Nick’s book Reset: Jesus Changes Everything is an invitation to a second chance—a do-over—to get beyond past missteps and refocus our lives around the power of Jesus to change everything.
The event started at 9 a.m. and drew a diverse crowd. The event drew many well-known speakers. Pope Francis appeared via video and speakers included Josh McDowell, Christine Caine, Ravi Zacharias and more. Throughout the event, there was a sea of uplifted hands celebrating Jesus. There were prayer tents scattered across the mall, but there were also spontaneous prayer that erupted as small groups clasped hands and prayed for and with one another.
Many Christian artists took to the stage including Casting Crowns, Lecrea, Kirk Franklin, Lauren Diagle, Crowder, Hillsong and many others.
Emergency Services shut down the event early, however, after medical personnel became overwhelmed with the number of people–more than 400–who were overcome by extreme heat.
